All sales associates at Black River Diamond Company are trained how to properly clean all types of jewelry. Before a piece of jewelry gets cleaned, our associates first check the jewelry for loose stones, broken prongs, and other damages that would be exacerbated by the cleaning process. If an item is damaged, then the associate consults one of our skilled in-house jewelers to discuss a repair plan.

Once the jewelry has been checked and the associate is sure there are no visible damages, they can begin the cleaning process. We have a few different ways to properly clean jewelry including steaming, ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, and an ionic jewelry cleaner. The steamer machine releases high pressure hot steam to loosen up and break down the tarnish and other grime that builds up on jewelry overtime. The ultrasonic uses vibrations and a low viscosity water solution to shake off impurities. The ionic jewelry cleaner is a cauldron-shaped machine that cleans silver jewelry most effectively. It also uses vibrations and a different kind of jewelry cleaning solution that brightens and polishes sterling silver.

Depending on the metal and the stones in your jewelry we may clean it with different solutions and tools. The most common jewelry pieces people bring in for a Check & Clean are engagement rings and wedding sets bought from Black River Diamond Company! These are typically 14 Karat gold rings set with diamonds. These pieces can be placed in the ultrasonic for one minute, and then gently scrubbed with a soft bristle toothbrush, followed by a quick blast from the steamer. When the associate is finished cleaning your jewelry thoroughly, they place it on one of our display pads to keep our fingerprints off of your jewelry, and so you can enjoy the shine you've been missing!
